AVG stopped MS Word working
I installed AVG free and MS word stopped working... I uninstalled AVG and it worked again. Any ideas - just try another anti-virus? - Recommendetions, priorities would be something that doesn't slow my PC booting up (much) and perhaps could do a scan whan I ask it and shutdown afterwards i.e. I can ask it to scan when I am finished using the PC...

I recommend avast! from here
if this causes problems then maybe look at an alternative to office, like OpenOffice?

Re-install AVG - choose Custom - deselect the Word plug-in
