I have had problems with a couple of different anti-virus software, they are having problems "seeing" my internet connection. I have no problem with IE and surf the net just fine, but when the anti-virus program tries to update, it tells me that there is no internet connection. I have DSL. Anybody have any suggestions??

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.
We have a great Tech/Security Teams who will help you on your issues. But firstly could please list the Virus scanners you have installed on your computer. Having 2 or more of these scanners on your computer can cause conflict. Now some Antivirus scanner servers can be realy busy at times and this then stops updates downloading.Have you tried the update service a little later in the day? Please be patient Tech/Security Team are busy at the moment but they will give you a helping hand soon. JB.

Hi lminor82,
What version of windows are you using? Also as Jelly Bean said if you have more than one anti-virus running it can cause problems, uninstall them and leave just one. Please try the following in Internet Explorer. Click Tools > Internet Options Click the Connections tab. Click LAN Settings. Try ticking or unticking Automatically detect settings. Reboot. Does this help? Try temporarily disabling the Windows Firewall or any other firewall you may have running. |

ok. My windows is Windows XP Professional; Service Pack 3.
Was recently update to SP3 (didn't help my problem) I had Norton AV several years ago and didn't like it, I switched to AVG and liked it, worked great for a year, then when I went to buy another year of updating, they suggested the newer version, so I bought the newer version. That version, wouldn't update , plus I didn't like it, it slowed the whole system down. So I swithed to Trend Micro Internet Security 2008. During instalation it told asked if it could delete the other security software, Norton, Spybot, AVG, and ad-aware. SO I did. Now my internet connection is working fine (so I was afraid to do a automatic detect interet connection) but the Trend micro will tell me there is no internet connection. I have tried to fix problem with trend micro a couple of times, unsuccessfully, so I thought I'd ask around. Thanks |

Check the following:
Click Start > Control Panel > Internet Options Click LAN Settings - Tick Automatically detect settings > Click OK > Click OK See if your antivirus can update now - you may need to reboot your pc. Please post back if this doesn't work. |
