I am a first time user and I am not sure of the protocol, but I have been assigned to help our church. We have a dell inspiron 6000 2005 model and it has got a virus. When the computer is first turned on, a window in the upper left corner titled: Symantec ANtivirus Corp. Under that it says that the trojan. Vundo virus has been found.
Action taken...clean failed
Quarenteen....failed
Access...........denied.
That is all it will do. I am ubable to do anything at all. The task bar is not present, right clicking on the desk top does no good. After a few minuites, there is a warning that the computer is shutting down and so it does.
I went on line to see what was available and everything I saw had to be downloaded which is impossible because I can't get online with the computer.
Can I download an application that I can use to boot the system up and start the repair process?
We took it to a repair shop and the estimate was $1,000.00

I am unable to do any of the things requested. Other than the display that there is a virus, I can do nothing. Ther are no icons on the desktop, there are no icons in the task bar. The desktop has only the assigned picture and that is all. I can not get anything to open. No start tab...nothing. We are using windows XP Pro. Nothing has to be saved during repair.
