Default security advice needed

i am an novice computer user. have dell dimension w/dsl. upgraded ram to 1g. i was running the following programs; registry mechanic, spyware doctor, avg7.5, windows defender and comodo firewall. i tried repeatly to download avg8 w/o any success. yesterday, jellybean gave me some great advice on how to download avg8 and i finally downloaded avg8. then all hell broke loose, computer froze, clicked on any icon, etc., nothing. tried to reboot and shut off computer, nothing. i finally unplugged computer and reconnected, computer was froze. couldn't get to system restore, tried last known good config., nothing. finally, restarted in safe mode and ran avg8, results nothing. got upset and deleted avg8, windows defender and comodo firewall. after rebooting, computer is running great and fast again. finally my question;;;;;; noticed that spyware doctor (and others), have a all in one program w/firewall. am considering deleting all, and installing a all in one program. would that be a good ideal???? if nothing else that should free up a lot of space on computer. any thoughts or advice would be appreciated............. thanks, jsk4224
