Default [Answered] Help with AVG messup

Ok, so I have a bit of a dilemna.

I have had the full paid version of AVG Internet Security 7.5 for about 5 months. As some of you may know, they just recently upgraded the software to AVG 8. I went to upgrade for free, I downloaded the files, and went to install them. When it was checking my system status, it told me that I was missing a vista update that I had to be installed for AVG to upgrade. So I exited the setup like it said, and installed the update correctly, and it installed fine. I went to install AVG 8 again and it installed perfect, I then configured it and everything was fine, but as most programs I had to restart to finish completely.

Here is the problem, when it started back up, there was a startup error and it immediately shut back down. It had to do do startup fix, and then system restore to fix the problem. When it finally did start up successfully, I saw that system restore had wiped out all the AVG files. I went to try to install it again, but I don't have the license key, because it got used the first time I installed it. So I can't install it again.

I went to the AVG support site, but you have to have a full registered product to get any help at all.

So I am screwed. Any suggestions?

Hi Zach, welcome to PCHF, sorry for the delay on this one.

So you no longer have the product key for AVG? Always a good idea to keep a hardcopy of any product keys you receive by e-mail. You might want to give AVG Sales a try, they can often be sympathetic, and may resend your activation key. You certainly wouldn't be the first to delete/lose their product keys, so you shouldn't have any problems. AVG Anti-Virus and Internet Security - Contact Customer Service

In the meantime, you can download AVG 8 Anti-Virus only - for free from here: AVG Anti-Virus - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com
