Soon I'll have finished building my server (waiting on Y-Splitters, IDE Controller Card, & a crossover cable) and when I do and network it to my main computer, will I need to install an antivirus program on it. Never having networked anything together I don't know if connecting a computer without internet to one with internet via a crossover cable will allow the other PC to access the internet, can I expect this and install AVG or will it stay offline, in which case I don't need it.

Best to be safe I suppose. A virus could be transferred across the network from the other PC.

well it will access the internet if you set up internet connection sharing. I would just in case something from the one with the net slips through. Trojan's propagate across networks
