Default Memory VS Mcafee Antivirus

I am having a problem with the extreme amount of memory the MacAfee Antivirus uses in the exe. files. Does anyone know of a way I can reduce the memory it uses. I'm running XP, 80 gig (50% free),windows firewall, 512 ram, service pack 2. In addition i run my various utilities once a wee and defrag about every two weeks. I would appreciate any suggestions that could help. Thanks!
