Default AVG Virus Vault

Just a quick question. I have AVG on my computer which scans daily, however in the virus vault it has a trojan horse which sets off red lights for me! lol! So if this virus is in the Virus Vault, does that mean it is safe? I cant seem to find anyway of healing this virus or getting rid of it, the only option is to remove it from the vault, but will that remove the virus from my computer?

Help!

Hi,

Firstly it should be safe - secondly, what is it called?

Did you complete our Pre-Work routine yet? http://www.pchelpforum.com/hijackthi...r-hjt-log.html - if not, then I would suggest doing that as the next step.

Hello, I am new here and debated a while before deciding what I should ask first, but since I saw this post...well, I have that same virus in my virus vault. It cannot be healed. Or restored. I don't know if I can even safely delete it because it is located at System Volume Information.

I also have two others in the virus vault.

Trojan Horse Backdoor.Generic7.IZY (also at System Volume Information)
and
Trojan Horse Backdoor.Generic7.IZY (documents and settings...came from a poker site I use).

If I delete the last one mentioned, will I be unable to play poker from that program?

Hello lovestowrite and Welcome to PCHF

I understand why you posted in this thread but it is always best to start your own thread........ It obviously got lost in the shuffle

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, it is safe to delete from System Volume Information, It's actually a part of System Restore; the tool that allows you to set points in time to roll back your computer. The System Volume Information folder is where XP stores these points and associated information that makes them accessible. If you would go back to that particular point you would reinfect your system....not good
2. I would delete the one that
came from a poker site too, if that site is infecting your system I surely would not be visiting it anymore.

Looks like you might need this:
Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click on the “Temporary Files” and uncheck the box for “Scan drives for file matching” if it’s checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.
