i have avg 7.5 and avg anti-spyware on my pc. Both free versions.

I am running xp and office 2003.

whenever i try to open word, it runs a virus scan first. I can't do anything until it has finished the scan. I use word a lot and this is just screwing up my time.

I do not have the same problem running excel or outlook.

how can i turn this off?

I tried to contact avg but they will only respond to bought versions. it tells me i need to register to use their forum but that doesn't work either. i like the prog but not the support.

any help with turning off this option would be great. i don't really want to uninstall as it's the right price...

Hello lucianp and welcome to PCHF
A solution to this is to go to the Start and click on Run.
Type regsvr32 /u avgoff2k.dll and then click ok.
Restart your pc. Now it shouldn't run this virus scan when opening Microsoft Word

If you would like to re-enable the Word scanning then simply go back to Start - Run and type regsvr32 avgoff2k.dll

thanks cowburn for the reply, however it didn't work. when I tried to run
regsvr32 /u avgoff2k.dll , this is what I got:

LoadLibrary("avgoff2k.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.

so I did a search on avg*.dll and the file is in there so I don't know why it failed.

I tried to qualify the path regsvr32 /u C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgoff2k.dll
and got the same error message.

Try this solution I found on the net


You can reconfigure the Options for AVG by...

1. Download the latest AVG Free installation package from [free.grisoft.com]
2. Run the AVG Free install file
3. Choose the Add/Remove components option and follow the setup wizard until you reach the Component Selection area
4. Uncheck Plugin for MS Office and finish the wizard.
5. Restart your computer then test.

That worked, thanks. I didn't even need to reboot. I tried word straight off and it came up asking if I wanted to enable macros and I said yes, so it just hung there. I closed and re-opened and said no to enable macros and - BAM. It hasn't been this fast in ages. Thanks.
