Default Is this a virus?

Hi,

My pc is acting very sluggish lately especiall when loading web pages. I noticed that when i ctrl alt delete i have lots of svchost applications running. Is this some kind of virus?

I tried copying lots of my files to dvd in case i need to reformat and it wont even let me copy stuff now as it says data error cyclic redundancy check. I have been copying things ok in the past like things i have downloaded but stuff from a while ago in my documents keeps bringing up this problem. I have tried different media to record on as well. So as you can imagine this is presenting me a big problem as i cant format.

Any help would be very appreciated.

John

This is what symnantec online scan just pulled up.

Your computer is infected with at least one known virus or Trojan horse.
Search for the name of the threat(s) listed below on the Symantec Security Response site for removal information.

No viruses were detected in memory.

I know it doesnt look good and Idont mind reformatting but I cant avoid the error mentioned in previous thread.

Hello.

Usually we don't have to resort to a total format.

Please perform the Prework link in my signature and post the resulting logs in your next reply.

Thanks I will perform that check as soon as I get time but can you explain why I keep getting this same error every time I try to copy things to dvd. Well apart from avi's that I download, they seem to copy fine. Here is the nero error message I get.

Data error, cyclic redundancy check.

Its so strange.

Any help is appreciated as its driving me crazy.
