Default uninstall auto protect not working

I have a problem with my laptop and have been told to run a system restore on my computer. To do this i have to unistall norton auto protect. I have norton protection centre so i went into that and clicked on the internet security tab, setting, auto protect and turn off and a red cross appeared on the norton icon to say it was off. I went into sytem restore and and error mmessage is still occuring saying:
'Before using this program please disable norton antivirus autoprotect. To do this, right click on the norton icon in the notification area(taskbar) and select the disable auto protect option.'

I completely confused. I have looked on the internet and the instruction from other people are the same but it is for norton anti virus NOT norton internet security. If i right click on my norton icon there is no option to disable auto protect. I went into symantec (norton) chat romm where thay have technical support and they said it was too technical for them!!!!!

SOMEONE MUST KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firstly, welcome to PC Help Forum, Sarah.

Not being a Norton user I can't check it "live" for you - but the official instructions are as follows;
1 Right-click the Auto-Protect icon, which is located by the clock in the Windows system tray.
2 Click Disable.
For Norton AntiVirus 2005, in the Options popup window that appears, select the period for which you want Auto-Protect turned off, and then click OK.
A red circle with a slash through its center appears, which indicates that Auto-Protect is disabled.

This is not talking about Norton's "clock" - it means the clock on the taskbar, bottom right of your PC screen
