Default AVG and Windows XP

Hi Guys,

Don't groan, I'm hoping this will be a simple one for you!

I currently have AVG Free 7.1 and it is being discontinued on Feb 18th. They have a new one that is build number 7.5 (I think). Now here's the problem. When my PC boots up inthe morning, AVG normally reminds me of the impending deadline and has a "tell me more" button. However, anytime I click a link outside of Internet Explorer, it always opens my ISP homepage and not the intended website the link is supposed to take you to. This happens not just with AVG, but with anything offline that has a hyperlink. I have a broadband connection and have never understood this. So this is question 1:How do I change my settings so that the links will work?

Question number 2 revolves around the existing version of AVG I have. Assuming that I will have to install this new AVG version when the time comes, what do I do with the few viruses that are quarantined in the old version's vault already? Will I have two AVG programs on my PC, i.e. the old obsolete one that is sitting there as a "jail" to the quaratined viruses or if I have to uninstall it before installing the new one, will that make the quarantined viruses active again??!!

As always, any advice you wonder-brains can come up with will be treated with awe and admiration!

Best wishes,
Mike

With regard to AVG goto free.grisoft.com, download the latest version. It basically upgrades the existing version so only the latest is installed.

you should also have the option somewhere to delete the vault; that, I am somewhat sure, is what I did prior to upgrading to 7.5 myself.....could be wrong though.

Thanks guys,

I don't suppose either of you can help with the other part of my problem, you know, the clicking on links outside of Internet Explorer?

In any case thank you for helping me out.

Kind regards,
Mike

Hmmm.... I think maybe we can make use of HijackThis can change this.... At the same time maybe I can check for any malware in your computer, since our last session. Killing two birds with one stone huh?

Please download HijackThis version 1.99.1 again from here:
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/hijackthis.zip
and make sure to unzip it to a permanent folder. Then please run HijackThis, click Scan and Save log, and post the new log here. I would be happy to take a look at it.

Mods, please don't move this to the Spyware section, unless I see malware in the log.
