Dear Sir/Madam,
I recently purchased "Teaching you Microsoft Word XP/2000" CD-ROM to use in my pc.
My spyware detector indentified it as a severe risk.
Therefore, I ran an anti-virus scan on it.
Unfortunately, Blueyonder PC Guard also detected a virus which it identified as a severe risk.
Fortunately, I was able to quarantine and remove it.
However, I now have a brand new CD-ROM, which my security system rejects.
How do I deal with this situation/ Can I legally return it to the shop and ask for my money back or must I accept that I have bought a teaching aid with a virus that will damage my pc?
Where do I stand?
Yours Truly

Hi Johnny
Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 products must, amongst other things, adhere to two specificic requirements unless specifically stated otherwise. 1: That they are fit for the purpose intended. 2: They are free of faults, ie; working properly. What you have to bear in mind though especially regarding this issue, is the fact that one AV program may pick up on something that another AV program may not. Are you absolutely sure you can track this infection to the cd disk? Was the disk a fully authorised Microsoft product?
