Default Problem with ZoneAlarm??

Strange thing: a couple of days ago I noticed that my updated copy of Free ZoneAlarm, when clicking on "update", apparently did nothing. Before then I always got a box saying ether my internet security was uptodate, or offering an update download. Now - zilch.

At about the same time I did a run with SpyBot, which for the first time came up with 4 messages to the effect that there had been registry changes allowed by BitDefender and what did I want to do about it.

I decided to restore the system to a few days before - just in case - and then updated AVG, ZoneAlarm (with the same lack of feedback as before) and SpyBot.

There *appears* nothing untoward and I suppose I'm paranoid, but can anyone say if the lack of ZoneAlarm "feedback" on an update request is now the norm?

Hey DataStream,

I just checked my ZoneAlarm, and while I have it set to update automatically, it only briefly flashes a box when I click on the update button.

Do you have Bitdefender? If not, you should not have gotten those messages.

Please carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, and then post back the ewido and HijackThis logs here. This may actually affect your DVD issue as well.

Looking forward to your reply,

Problem - if I go to turn off System Restore, it says that all restore points existing will be deleted! Surely I don't want to do that???

Oh yes you do! If you are infected, and I am awfully concerned that you are, those rlms (rotton little monsters) just LOVE for people to forget to remove the restore points. They use them to reinfect the machine.

I promise you will be OK.

Looking forward to your reply,

OK! But can't I restore from say a month ago - before the problem started?

Just back from lunch so will have to do it after a cuppa.
