Hey Data,

It is usually just the personalization that you made to Zone Alarm that you would have to worry about in this case. When you uninstall ZA, it should ask you if you want to keep your settings, answer Yes. Then complete the uninstall. Reboot the PC, and reinstall ZA.

Looking forward to your reply,

Surely you mean "No" don't you? No point in keeping suspect personalisations !

Hey Data,

Not necessarily, lots of folks spend a good deal of time making sure that their firewalls know exactly which sites they want to have allowed. It can be a very time consuming endevor. If they are not important to you, then it's OK, go ahead and remove it all.

Looking forward to your reply,

If you want a complete reinstall of ZoneAlarm though, click "Clean Install" when you run the installer.

However, do take note that this is essentially letting you configure the firewall all over again. As LGW mentioned, some folks do spend a lot of time configuring their firewall and a complete reinstall may not be so suitable for them.

If you are one of those who usually relies on the default settings, I would suggest you take the "Clean Install" route.

Back on line after a week or so!! Things got so bad that I had to reformat my HD.......... FWIW I obeyed the instruction to delete the Restore points - BIG MISTAKE! Whatever might have been on my system, it would have been far preferable to get back to a previous setting than the trauma of reformatting, then reinstalling program after program - half of which needed calls to the suppliers. It took 3 hrs on the phone to the modem supplier to get that little puppy re-installed! then 60Mb of Windoze updates..... DON'T GET RID OF YOUR RESTORE POINTS!

Restore points are not the only way you can restore to a previous state... always keep a backup copy of your entire system too.

You should print out or write down ALL of your installation codes while they are fresh in your memory.
Then save all your installation programs to one CD-rom or a set of floppies-- whatever you have... and put ALL of this info in one SAFE place ....clearly labelled.
AFA not deleting restore-points... sometimes it is REQUIRED to remove all traces of a virus. Otherwise you will RE-infect yourself. Thats why people are always saying a good backup strategy is critical... you can fix ANY problem with your computer with ease IF you have a good/clean/recent backup. Windows restore is a very limited tool for emergencies-- not an auto-backup service
