currently, i have no anti virus programs installed on my computer, in the past the only things that have happened was usually something bad, like crashing my computer or slowing it down considerably, but not running gives me a sense of vulnerability, so my question is do i really need a program? and if i do what do you guys use that doesnt have any of the major repercussions that i just listed (kinda)
thanks

Yes, if you surf the 'net or use third party Cd's or disks then you need an anti-virus solution. AVG from Grisoft has never caused me any issues.
