Hi rams, welcome to the site

This is a bit of an open ended question as it really comes down to personal choice. Personally I use AVG because it's free, I have never suffered at the hands of a virus and Grisoft produce daily updates.

I know a lot of other IT pro's that use AVG also and would never purchase Norton or McAfee for personal use. Corporately it's a different matter and this is where the bigger companies come into their own.

PC world (i think, could've been another site) posted a comment about Norton a few weeks ago ,and the number of people who posted complaints on that thread was staggering. I've always had nothing but problems with Norton, viruses, pop-ups, malware, OS crashes, but I always put it down to the nature of using the internet, c'est la vie. However last year I finally got rid of Norton and since then it's been clear sailing, no major viruses, just the occasional spyware or adware which is fairly to remove with Adaware etc. Now I use ad-aware and AVG. Both free. So far so good...

Hey, rams ...

Another great anti-virus program is AntiVir PersonalEdition. There is a free version and a Premium version that requires a license fee. I chose the Premium version as it scans e-mail.

I use AntiVir on my personal machine and AVG on my wife's machine.

Why do I use these two programs? Because they both are small, uncomplicated and easy to use; but the key reason is because they work!

Yeah-- after a couple of years with Norton-- and a couple of infections (nothing MAJOR) -- I switched to AVG-- and have't had a single problem since. Norton's tech-support is the pits, too. When I had a major install problem -it took 'em days to respond-- and then it didn't answer my question . Grisoft's been great so far...
