Default Norton Internet Security Problems

Hello All. New member of the forum here.

I have installed Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2006 on my new pc. I have a dial-up ISP account with Earthlink and we are using their TotalAccess software with accelerator.

After connecting to the internet, my browser (Internet Explorer) is being denied access. I know that the internet connection is valid because I am able to run LiveUpdate and dowload the latest virus definitions from Norton. Additionally, from a command window, I am able to ping CNN.com with losing any packets.

I have also tried to disable the Norton Firewall and start a new instance of the browser window. Sometimes this works and sometime this doesn't.

I have checked the windows firewall and it is disabled so there shouldn't be a conflict.

This problem is driving me crazy and I need some general advice on configuring NIS/firewall/parental control.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to PCHF,

Sounds like the problem is relating to the Norton Firewall, this seems to cause all sorts of problems with IE.

You have a few easy choices:
  • Uninstall Norton Firewall
  • Install and use Firefox instead of IE

Alternatively we can try and resolve the problem with Norton Firewall still installed.

Check the following sites and see whether they help:

This could also help
Configuring firewall rules for Web-enabled programs
it might be slightly different for your version
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...=&osv=&osv_lvl=

but most times its just easier to remove and then reinstall the firewall..
