Default Shield 2005 AV/Firewall any good?

I just bought a new computer and i'm not sure what AV to use. I have norotons till January, but I don't want to pay for it. I already have a copy of Shield 2005 av/firewall from my old system and have never had any problems with it (I also ran noadware w/ it too). Is the Shield 2005 worth using still? or should I go with Avast or AVG?

Hi there msufan1, welcome to PC Help Forum.

I guess this all comes down to 2 things, personal choice and budget. Norton certainly produce some fine products BUT they obviously come with a price tag. There are many free solutions that will give you similar (some say better) levels of protection. If you don't want to pay for further subscription to Norton then yes, a move to AVG (free) and a free firewall, such as Zonealarm, Outpost or, if you have XP SP2, the XP firewall would be a wise choice.

Let us know if you need more detailed advice. Please also look here for our excellent installation guides to help you set up many of the free protection products: http://www.pchelpforum.com/installation-guides/
