Hi,
I downloaded the wrong AVG sofware , i was looking for the free one but got a trial one instead, now i have a free one but it won't download because it says i have already got a version (the trial one) but every time i try to uninstall it i get the message:
Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: Initialization of the language file "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\setup.lns" failed.
General failure. :undecided

what should i do, i am unprotected and am worried,
many thanks

Hi there Oonaspryte and welcome to PHCF
It seems not all of AVG was deleted or AVG has been damaged.
Try this, to make sure the AVG files haven't been damaged
- Goto start->run
- enter 'chkdsk /f' (enter)
- When asked to scan upon reboot choose 'y'
- Reboot and let scandisk check your drive
- Try uninstalling avg again

Good luck :-)

Smile

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I had tried that already though and it still didn't work.

I get the message "Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: Initialization of the language file "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\setup.lns" failed.
General failure"
Don't know if that helps, it doesn't help me ???:shocked??
thanks again,
oonaspryte

From the AVG site:
1. Open My Computer
2. Right-click on the Local Disk (C: then select Properties from the popup menu.
3. Select the Tools tab and click the Check now button in the Error Checking area.
4. Select Automatically fix files system errors and click the Start button.
5. You will get a notice that the system needs exclusive access to the drive and it will ask if you want to schedule it for the next time you restart your computer... select Yes.
6. Restart your computer so it can check the drive.

When the system gets restarted finally... use AVG's Scan Selected area to just select the Grisoft directory that the problem was in to see if that resolved the problem or not.

You may still get the CCleaner utility anytime you wish. Its a pretty good one to have around for just general system cleaning.
