Hi, I'm having a problem with my old pc. I'm trying to get it running so I can have an extra computer. I booted it up awhile ago and it seemed fine. So I ordered some ram and a new hard drive. I haven't got them yet but I took out the ram to see what kind I needed. I put it back and all looked fine so I just left it. But when I tried to boot it today nothing showed up on the screen. I tried reseating the ram but that didn't work. I tried two different displays and neither showed anything. I tried another power supply also. I noticed that on the original display one of the prongs had broken off but I remembered that it had been that way for awhile. Maybe the prong is stuck inside it but it worked before. It seems to boot fine, all the fans running and when I put the Windows XP cd in the cd spun as usual. There is one sound that is missing from the regular boot up so I have a feeling that there is something wrong with the hardware. I have no hard drive plugged in because it doesn't work and that's how it was before. ANY help would be useful, if you have any questions I'll answer them as best I can. Thanks for any help.

I would check the video card. Maybe when you took out the ram you accidentally unseated it. I would also check all of the plugs, including the ones that go from the power supply to the motherboard.

Where should I look for the video card.... I'm not sure what to look for.. I've pushed in the ram many times and it's not sticking out at all. I've pushed in all the plugs too. If you want I can take a picture.

I only have two pci cards... one for ethernet and one is an old phone one. There is one that is attached but by a cable and has a video output. I use the built in vga out for video. Should I maybe get a video card? I'm not sure if mine's built in or something but I don't see it...

From what you said, it does sound like your video is built in so that rules out not being seated correctly. You say there's a video output that's attached by a cable? Is that the video output you use? Is the cable attached to the motherboard correctly?

Yes it is connected properly and no I don't use the output because it's male and I have a male vga cable. I don't think it's even VGA..?

You said that on the original display that one of the prongs had broken off. Was that prong on the the monitors connection, or on the cable that connects to the monitor, or on computer itself?
