Thumbs down High Pitched Beep And Wont Turn On at all :(

Hey,
I have a problem with my old desktop pc that ive had lieing around forever. It worked fine and had some good components in it, i basicly started it up again to learn and get some experience in computeing, Its no way near the best computer in the world but it was something to start adding to. Anyway, Yesterday i was fiddeling about with another ccomputer and found an identical memory card in it as the on on my desktop. 512mb DDR 333 or something and i fuigerd it could be added to the existing one next to it. ( i fuigured it was pretty much plug and play, no need for instlalation etc..) And whene i started it up again it didet do much at all. I took it out and rebooted back to normal but instead of starting up, The computer turnd on but dident turn on the monitor, keyboard and mouse as it should have done. i just whurred and made a really loud high pictched beep noice every few seconds or so.
I fear i may have err "given it a static shock" (not sure of the technical term ) as this was something my uncle warned me about ( hes pretty good at this stuff ) anyway its not a major loss but i did enjoy building it and want to carry on.

Dose anybody kno whats happend? and if it can be fixed? replaceing parts etc...

By the way sorry about my spelling etc and my Noobness im only 14 and learning so this may be blatenly obvious but you know every little helps

Thanks in advance

Jacob

I would ask my uncle but hesnot Online at the moment :S haha

hello jacob
welcome to the pchf , there are a lot of great techs here that will always do their best to sort out problems , hope you enjoy your stay
is the beep like one constant beep or is it a series of two beeps and a pause and two beeps again or something else ?
did you take out the additional ram you put in ?
are the ram sticks EXACTLY the same ?
try taking out all the ram and switch it on again ,then turn it off and install one of the ram sticks and reboot again ,

OK ill try that, Thank you.

Its a 1 or 2 Second long beep then a 2 or 3 second pause. and it gose on for ever. the lights on my mouse and keyboard dont light up and the monitor dosent switch on but the fan is running. Whene i put back in the second memory stick the computer runs and dosent beep and the monitor switches on and i get a black screen with white writeing on it telling me to "Press DEL to enter SETUP, ESC to enter BOOT Menu.

my keyboard dosent switch on as normal so i cant press any button and the screen stayes like that forever.

Ill go ahead and try your suggestion.

Thanks again

OK, i did as you said and the same happens, I took out all the ram and turned it on. Turned it off and put it the first ram but no change.

Its a 2 Second Beep and a 4 second pause ( About that )

The ram are the same 512mb, DDR, 333, CL2.5 with the same sticker, the only diffrence is one came from a diffrent computer.

Thanks

yeah umm mixing ram types from different manufacturers, no matter if they have the same specs, can cause problems for you. other than this, i have the same problem on my old desktop pc (or one of them at least) and basically my motherboard is fried, you may want to consider this possibility and be prepared to buy another motherboard, the only other thing i can think of would be to take it to a professional, as there is only so much we can do from here, hope this goes some of the way to helping

Because the motherboard isn't just one big circuit, its a load of circuits working together basically, so if one part of the motherboard isn't working, the others still SHOULD operate, it just won't use the part of the motherboard that is fried, or at least this is how i understand it.
