From your earlier comment,

Only to install the whole software package, restore fully the laptop or erase the disk
You should have chosen to install the whole package.

Now, you may be lucky enough to reinstall everything and allowing it to partition it's self by booting from the Recovery disks once more.

Try that and get back to us.

Oh I cant install anything now because the recovery cd first loads RAMDISK image... then it finishes and goes to a blue screen saying windows has been shut down...
I put the "*** STOP:" message in a previous post.

Thousands of errors on what?

The hard drive?

Have you tried to reinstall using the recovery disks?

Well, I tried installing Ubuntu just to see how far it gets and it seems to be stuck formatting at 33%. I'll wait a while longer. I dont know how many sticks of ram there are in this thing but if there's more than 1, I can try to figure out which one is bad by elimination.

*While it's stuck on formatting, the CAPS lock light is blinking. Does this mean it's stopped working? Should I turn it off and proceed to unplug RAM?
