Okay so for the past couple of days my computer has been having some overheating issues, which it does after going a few months without a cleaning. So, I decided to grab a vacum and clean it out. I unplugged everything, opened it up, cleaned out all the dust and set the fans to a higher setting (which I've done before without any problems). Then I closed it back up, plugged everything back in and hit the power button. I was greeted with a loud buzzing noise and then... nothing. Now I can't get any sort of activity out of my computer whatsoever. Pushing the power button does nothing, no lights come on, no fans start spinning, just nothing. What could have happened? All I did was clean it out and set the fans a bit higher. I opened it up again to make sure everything was still connected properly and I don't see any problems. This is a bit of an emergency as I have work to do on this computer that can't be done on any other, and I have no idea where to begin with this. Help please?

Give this a shot remove side cover mak sure no leads are in the fans stopping them also push down on all cards and memory to make sure they are connected properly also check RAM in in properly. Also unplug power lead from wall socket and hold power button in just incase PSU is over loaded and causing this also. Plug back in and try boot it up

Nothing is blociking the fans and everything is connected properly. I unplugged the cord from the power supply and held down the power button and that didn't seem to change anything.

well if there is no power light on at all and none on the mainboard it looks like your PSU is dead the loud buzzing noise may have been a compasitor dieing

How could my power supply have died, its been working fine. The fans couldn't have possibly killed it, could they? They take up so little power and I didn't make any other hardware changes.

I know this seems odd but it maybe coincidence because if you have power lead in and mainboard power light is not on(Your mainboard has a light?most do) then you have no power getting to the mainboard which has to be your power supply.
Oh the only thing I can think of that my cause this is the power switch be bumped off the mainboard. Check the wires from the power switch on front of case are connected to the mainboard |

Yeah, the wire for the power switch is still connected. There are no lights on the computer whatsoever. It's just... dead. Unfortunately the power supply I'm using cost $140 (and I see no cheap alternatives anywhere that I could pick up or receive anytime soon), so I have to wait for OCZ to replace it, which will probably take several weeks, meaning it will be that long before I can get any work done.
I really hate computers sometimes. |
