Default Major PS3 Issue

I bought a PS3 off ebay ages ago. It didn't come with a manual.

I've bought some DLC using my card on it. But the PS3 is still registered to someone else's account! I've only just realised, it signs in automatically.

I don't know their password or DOB so I can't reset the password OR delete my card details from the PS3. I can't even edit my card details and make them into random numbers.

I need to remove my card details because I'm selling the PS3 soon.

I only know that the person who had it before me is 45 and lives in Burnley. I just don't know his DOB. I could email him and ask him but there's a risk he could login to the PS3 network and use my credit card details!

What can I do?

Format and restore the system.

Hard Reset procedure for the PS3 (as instructed by Sony CS).

1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.
2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.
3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/1 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn’t detected after initial reset).

Thanks guys but that won't work. The details are registered online on Sony servers.

I just went through all months from October to January of this year and none seem to be his birthday (not in year 1964 anyway)

Any other ideas?

I would suggest you ring Sony's helpline and see what they have to say about it.

Thanks Duck, I rang them. Had to find their number on AVForums though. The UK PS3 website is useless. It's like they don't want you to find the phone number.

And then its not even a free number! But they say my card details have been removed. I have no way to check now because I've stopped it automatically logging in.

I also can't format because its listed on ebay as coming with the DLC. If I formatted I'd lose the DLC and have to buy it again.
