Default Hello, and new computer build problems...

Hi guys and gals,

i'll cut to the chase, bought a bunch of parts over the last 2 days and started to put the pieces together today, everything went of thankfully without a hitch as this is my first build. Power it on and nothing blew up, which was nice.

the components are
- ASUS M2N AM2 NVIDIA nForce 430 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6GHz) Socket AM2 1MB L2 Cache OEM Processor
- Palit 9500GT 1GB DDR2 Super + VGA DVI HDMI PhysX and Cuda ready PCI-E Graphics Card
- Kingston 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory Non-ecc CL5 Unbuffered 1.8V
- LG GH22NS40 22X SATA DVD±RW/DL/RAM Black Bare Drive - OEM
- Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM Caviar Blue
- Arctic Cooling Freezer-64-LP Dual Cooling Low Profile Processor Cooler for AMD 939 and AM2 Processors

It starts up fine, enter the BIOS and it recognizes everything, the DVD drive and the HDD, as well as the RAM. I set the CD to boot before the HDD.

The problem that then occurs is when trying to boot from the motherboard CD to update the BIOS or the XP CD, i just get a blank screen.

I've had a gander around this website an others who have built and had problems, but couldn't find anything that could directly help me. Think I've explained everything but if there is anything else that could help solve it, i'd love to hear it.

So any help very appreciated.

Update:

After some research I've managed to get about 5 mins through setup but then it freezes.

I reseted the CMOS by switching the jumpers on the motherboard and then putting it back, and removing the battery and putting it back. Also, within the BIOS, it resets back to default settings, despite changing it, so i may have to change the battery.

If anyone has any other suggestions to why, again, helpful.

I need some clarification. Are you trying to boot from the motherboard driver CD after installing the O/S?

I was trying to install the OS, i realised quickly that the motherboard CD wasn't bootable. I changed the CMOS battery today and on the first install it crashed again, but second time lucky, it's gone the distance, installed absolutely fine without a hitch.

That did seem a common solution to the problems i was exhibiting. Just glad nothing major was wrong with the motherboard. Hope this helps anyone else who has similar problems.
