Default Getting a new computer

I am getting a new PC from Alienware and want to copy all the games and or files that I have on this Dell Studio 17 Laptop, with Windows Vista 64 bit, to my new PC.
I have no idea what I'm doing, or how to access any files, or where they or kept. I don't want to get in there a really mess things up.
If you would be so kind and take me by the hand, as they say, and walk me through this, as you would a child, I would be most gratefull.
Thank you;

Robert

Hello Robert and Welcome once again

I see that your other issue with Fallout has been answered..

Transferring files from one PC to another is thankfully easy in Vista...

Start>Accessories>System Tools>Windows Easy Transfer is where it is...

I am sure there are others who have a better idea as to how, so I will mark this open to encourage all to come take a look.

Thanks for your patience

I would recommend Acronis True Image. It's easy to use and you can download a fully functional trial version to do your copying. Hope this helps

Thank you for the Information, I will try it.
As I said I am getting an Alienware computer. It has; "Intell core Z extream X 9100 3.06 ghz (6mb cache 1066 mhz fsb)." I do not know what all that means...but it sounds good, and it was a purchase up grade. But I have read that I should down load "BIOS", what ever that is!
If you have a little time, would you please explain that to me, and how it will help this new system.
Thanks again;
Robert

rr,

Might you provide a link to the article recommending that you download BIOS? The BIOS of a system is the "guts" if you will - the things that tell a computer that it's a computer. Wikipedia's explanation of what the BIOS is can be found here. If the BIOS get fouled, you have a very expensive brick.

Many manufacturers have a website that will provide links to all driver updates - BIOS updates can be found there. Alienware I believe is still owned by Dell - Dell handles BIOS upgrades from Windows. Very user friendly

Hey there Robert..

How goes the progress on this machine?

BIOS updates is the heart of the matter, as DCi has said...if you haven't already read, please do.

You have said you are getting the Alienware...even new releases may have BIOS updates. MY Toshiba is a perfect example.
Please utilise the PCSpecs link in my signature to help with this and we will give you all the support that is available.

Here is a link to my thoughts on this..Post #1
