Default Freezing Problem - Help!

Hi all, I have a Dell Inspiron 531 running Vista which I bought last January and there has been a persistent problem ever since I bought it. It will spontaneously freeze, first with the toolbar then with the program I'm running although it can vary. It then freezes entirely and any audio I have will
start to stutter - rapidly repeat a second of the music - and if left for a while it will go to a blue screen and give a message of either KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR or KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. This first happened the night I first turned the pc on so it is certainly not something I have downloaded onto it. Also it has increased in frequency to freezing every ten minutes or so. Would reinstalling Vista perhaps help? I am a student and can't afford a new pc, I really need to resolve this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have done some research and RAM keeps popping up. As it is most prone to crashing when I am running a game or film or downloading, could it simply need more RAM or some other form of hardware - pretty pc illiterate here - ?

Regards, Flytch

The error you are reporting should have a code number with it like
Stop 0x00000077 which helps pinpoint the error.

The most likely cause is a fault on the HD or memory.

Goto start and find run then type cmd and you will get a dos window(or search for cmd and click on it when found) then type

Chkdsk c: /f /r

It will say it can do this as its in use and it will ask if you want to run it at startup say yes. See if it finds any errors.
Is there any other problems as a virus can give the same error have you got AV and have you do a full scan.

If you have other problems and think it may be a Virus/malware see smokeycheech reply and click on prework follow the instructions from there. If its done it from new its unlikely its a virus but it may well be worth giving Dell a ring as it should be fit for the purpose which it isnt and they may remote into it and check it for you
