Angry HELP! is my computer fried?

This is not the blue screen of death, but i don't know where to post this. we had a thunderstorm this afternoon and lost power for a few seconds. the computer is on heavy duty surge protector and nothing else seem to be affected but my computer does not get past the first screen where it says "hit DEL to run setup, hit tab for BIOS". i don't know what to do. this is our main computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes, the lights on the computer come on, something is spinning, i can hear that, the monitor comes on with logos of P5LD2 and Intel and something else. the message on the bottom as posted above. both DVD drives lights come on for a short while. one the keyboard shows no signs of life, no lights etc. we another keyboard and i see 3 lights come on with a beep and go off. nothing happens after that.
what's next?

I can not get into my BIOS or setup

So based on your decription I would say bios is corrupted.POST cannot be

completed .Unplug your computer from main power source.Take out your

CMOS battery a small silver thing which looks like a coin remove it for 10

minutes and put it back.Plug back the power cable and try turning the pc

back on.

NCHLS I have done exactly what you told me. the computer booted up and told me to run setup, i did not change anything except set the system time. then it put up a black screen, some message about checking something and then black screen again with a message:
a disk read error occurred
press ctrl+alt+del to restart
i did as it said several times. it goes to the same message and stops.

Disk error ...Hmm... Try restart the computer after bios is done if u can

get there keep pressing f8 then boot into safemode. Then run CHKDSK go

to my computer then right click your drive then properties then tools then

error checking tick both then start if it ask you to restart do it the black

screen not previous problem wioll appear do not skip it the screen will say

something like a disk check has been scheduled.Unless the surge has already affected the hard disk.(WHen there was a surge does the comp have a UPS or were you copying files...Or did you tweak your hard disk via device manager?
