Hello, I am new to this forum.
Anyways, I have a problem here and I hope there is someone out there who knows alot more than me when it comes to what I have to say.
First of all, I know its never a good idea to go and delete certain drivers but here is a rundown of what happened:
1.I visited nvidia.com to see if there were any new drivers for my "NForce4" motherboard.
2.After auto-scanning my pc specs, I was "recommended" to download and older version of the driver I already had, and I thought that was strange but I did what it said.
3.After downloading the driver and rebooting my system, the internet no longer worked and all my connections, in networking were gone.
4.So, being light in the head today, I went into "add/delete" programs and found the nvidia driver.
5.Before deletion (which i now realize was the dumbest thing I could have done) it asked me what I wanted to get rid of?
6.I selected "everything except the display driver".
7.Then my pc rebooted and everything started up as normal except that now my desktop is a blank screen.
I have tried everything to get it going again and the trouble is, I cannot switch to an onboard gpu because my motherboard does not have a video output for one.
I pressed "F8" and brought up a menu that listed the following (just for reference):
-Safe Mode (which i tried but my mouse would not respond)
-Safe Mode with Networking
-Safe Mode with Command Prompt
-Enable Boot Logging
-Enable VGA Mode (this would let me view my desktop again but my mouse and my keyboard would not work or respond)
-Last Known Good Configure (tried it to no avail)
-Directory Service Restore (tried it with no results)
-Debugging Mode
-Disable Automatic Restart During System Failure
-Start Windows Normally (which we all know will not work at this point)
-Reboot
-Return to OS Choices (I only have one OS)
So, I hope someone out there who is smarter than I am can help me with this, because I am at a loss of options and my PC does not even seem to have an option to reboot the entire system all over again from scratch.
I bought my PC custom, a white box I think they are called?
The case is Sagitta and the motherboard I believe is Nvidia/Asus.
AMD Athlon 64x2 and my OS is Windows XP sp3.
I have like 4gb's of ram.
My gpu is a GeForce 8500GT.
This is just driving me nuts and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have looked all over the place for an answer and I cannot seem to find one.
Like I said before, I have no external port to connect my monitor to an onboard gpu (if it even has one?) so my 8500 is the only thing I have.
The bootup screen shows up and only goes black when it goes to load the desktop.
Sorry if this post seems really long but I wanted to give a detailed account so I can get as much help as possible.
What I think happened was when I deleted the driver, I lost my mouse and keyboard functionality too for some reason.
So thats my S.O.S. and if anyone could get back to me on this that would be awesome!

I'd use System Restore and a restore point from the day before you installed the new/old driver.

I'll bet you have both a usb mouse and keyboard yes?
Try hooking a PS2 mouse and keyboard to the box and retry Safe Mode then do the restore. By the way do we talk of XP here or Vista?

Yeah, I do have a usb mouse and board.
I will try what you suggested and see what happens. Also, thanks for the idea Cobracon but my PC doesnt seem to have system restore, or at least I can't seem to get to it. I have to wonder though, if my PC did not already have an onboard gpu, then how the hell did someone install the one I have now, which is a seperate component? I don't know, anyways, thanks for the help people! |

Wow, thanks for the link Cobracon, I will try this too, it sounds like it might do the trick.
The weird thing with me though is that I unplugged my usb mouse and keyboard and replaced them with ps/2 ones (after I shut it down of course) and I still cannot navigate the desktop (in vga mode) or in safe mode either? Does it help to know that my motherboard is a "M2N4-SLI"? Alright, well I am going to see what I can do and thanks for the advice! |
