Hi ........

I'm running windows Xp SP3. I have a DvdRw 16x16x drive. It recognises Dvds but not Cds. The drive is fully updated, I have checked in the Bios and everything seems ok. Obviously this is going to cause huge problems should I ever need to reinstall windows.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is the drive old?

I had one stop reading DVD's and that was one of the 1st steps towards it dying...

Are those Music CDs?, Data CDs? or both?

Assuming it worked once what software are you now using to try and read them?

I dont think the drive is really old, but then again its not that new either.
I've just purchased the Pc second-hand and am unfamiliar with its age.

It wont read music or data cds. When I insert a cd, goto my computer, dvd drive, it doesnt even show a disc present. Yet dvds are fine, it reads and burns them without problems.
