Ok this sounds like a faulty PS2 Mouse port on the board and it would be a hassle to remove it and solder another in.
Make sure usb support is enabled in the bios, try again and get back to us.
The downside of no PS2 Mouse is when you ever come to do a re-install, ok you can get by with just the keyboard but having the mouse too does help.
