Hi Good people I am a new member to this forum and am looking forward to being part of the community.I have just purchased a USB 2.0 to IDE & SATA cable to extract information from a laptop hard drive, however my computer does not recognise the device. Does anybody else have any examples of this happening and any ideas how to resolve it?

Can I just ask, did the cable come with a disk? It may need drivers installed.

Also, could you go to device manager in control panel whilst you have the cable plugged in, and see if there are any exclamation marks there?

Hi Smokeycheech,first off thanks for yur friendly welcome and reassurance that you will be able to help, that is a realy nice feeling.
It did come with a disc with about 12 different drivers on for different types of devices.I was unsure which 1 ineeded so tried to install them all, however they were rejected as my operating system (vista) should have been ok for them to run on and all the drivers seemed to be for windows 98. I will look again for exclaimation marks tomorrow when I get back to my computer, and keep you posted.

I have checked the device manager and to the nest of my findings I can not see any exclaimation marks.Do yo have any further ideas about what else I can do?

I believe that I have this same cable at the office, but my OS is XP. I will hopefully be able to lend a hand.
