Can anyone help me please. I had to a problem and I had to reinstally my windows XP, but now it doesn't recognize that the modem is connected. I think maybe my ethernet port is broken but I am not sure. I have tried installing the modem again, but no luck.

How do I tell if my ethernet port is broken or not.

Have you tried
A) Re installing the drivers for the ethernet port?

B) Checked the RJ45 cable?

I had a problem recently where my connection would drop out randomly. After exhausting all hardware and software possibilities, it turned out that the cable had given out!!!

Thanks for the reply. The Cable is fine, i have just checked it with a friends laptop. I guess it is a problem with the ethernet port driver. Unfortunately I can`t find the driver disk, I think i lost it when i moved into my new apartment. i guess I need to download one from somewhere, but there are so many, I don't know which one to download.

You will need to go to the motherboard manufacturers website, and then download the ethernet drivers for your operating system...

I formatted my computer its an IBM Netvista 8182 KAJ, and the I have lost some of the drivers, most importantly the Ethernet controller. I have downloaded loads of drivers from several websites, but none of them seem to work. My Cable is fine, I have tried it with a friends laptop. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice much appreciated.
