I've been trying to get a good backup of my stuff before I run the reinstall, but can't seem to make it happen. I have a WD Elite external hard drive to the backups, but their software isn't working right. Is there a good backup program out there that I can use with this type of drive?

Thanks.

If you can see the external hard drive in My Computer - then you can just a make a folder called backup on the external drive and copy everything across. This would be much easier than trying to find alternative backup and then learning how to use it.

Thanks for the tip, Diire. I tried that Friday night and it didn't work. But I can't remember what error message I got at the time.
I got in touch with WD this morning, and they had me do an uninstall/install and now it looks like the backup is working. Hopefully, it won't take very long to complete a good backup.
Well, the backup just stopped again and I am still getting a message that there are files waiting to be backed up. I'll call WD again and see what they have to say. I'll get back to you after I talk to WD. And I'll try the copy again and see what happens.
Thanks.

WD tier 2 techs aren't working today, so it will be tomorrow before I can get any help with the backup. I'm going to try the copy function and I'll get back to you.

Good morning, Diire. Glad you are online. Everything went OK last night/this morning. I have Windows up and running, and one printer working, but can't seem to figure out how to get my internet connection back. Can you help me? I'm on my laptop right now.

Thanks.

Hi Maureen,

You will need to download the ethernet drivers for your motherboard/pc.

Do you have a brand name pc like a Dell or HP/Compaq. If so go their website and look up your model and you will be able to download the drivers from there.

If you don't have a brand name pc then download ASTRA from the link below. On the System Summary page it will list your motherboard make and model. Go to the manufacturers website and lookup your motherboard model and you will be able to download the drivers from there.

ASTRA32 - Advanced System Information Tool - Free Download

If you have any problems please post back what astra says for your motherboard make and model and we can give you links to the drivers you need.

Dirre, Dell got drivers when I did the install of Windows several weeks ago. Can I use those? We used the laptop to go to the web to get them.

Also, I was able to restore the backup from April, but it was so large that I had to use 2 flash drives to hold it. Now the restore won't recognize the second part of the backup. What do I do?
Thanks.
