with the pen inserted in the usb slot right click it and select properties then click tools and under error checking click check now to check it for errors tick both "automaticaly fix system file errors" and "scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors" if that fails hopefuly one of the tech's will give you another solution to try

Hi,
If you download the File Recovery software within my signature, use it on your pen drive (obviously have the drive connected) Within the software is an option to format the drive, use that and see if it improves anything. If it doesn't, go to Device Manager: Start > Control Panel > Hardware > Device Manager > USB Devices / Storage And check to see whether your USB drive has an exclamation mark next to it. If it has a yellow exclamation mark then right click it and choose Update Driver > Search Automatically. That should install it properly. Then, click Start > Run type in cmd and click OK Then in the command propmpt type chkdsk x: /f Where x is the letter of the USB pen drive. Finally, run this command: format x: Where x is the letter of the USB pen drive. Even if these commands don't work, you should make a note of any error messages they come up with as they will help us pinpoint the exact problem. |

I have the pc doctor file recovery program on my computer but was unaware that it would work on pen drives so I will try this method out. I will also try out the method you have provided me with trying to format. if all of this fails does this mean the pen drive is done for good?

I tried the file recovery with pc doctor and it didn't show up in the program. I tried the cmd prompt instructions you gave me and it returned with an error saying cannot open volume for direct access.
