Keyboard will stop working for no apparent reason. Everything else works fine. Replaced the keyboard with one from my second, older computer and it does the same thing. It happens sporadically whether I am working on the computer or come back and find I cannot type anything in. Doing a reboot resets the keyboard and it will work for sometimes a day and then quit. I am running Vista on a MSI motherboard with 4gb memory and two 500gb hd. I ran Malwarebytes, AVG Free CCleaner and jv16 registry cleaner and nothing found that might be a visable problem.

Hi captain,
My apologies for the time taken to answer your call for help. I've marked your thread as Open to encourage the clever ones amongst us to respond. To help them could you tell us if your keyboard is usb or has the ps2 connector. |

Sorry I should have covered that. Both keyboards are ps2. All the rest of my computer I think are covered in Computer Specs by my name.

Can you try using a usb keyboard?
It's possible that your ps2 connection is failing |

That is my first guess. Isn't the ps2 attached to the motherboard? I built this machine a couple years ago but being 71 I start to forget what was attached to where. Is there any way to check that short of replacing the motherboard?

Yes,the ps2 is attached to the motherboard, but to answer your second question we'll need input from the tech's, as I cannot answer that one...

The easiest way to check if the PS2 slot is failing would be to buy a usb keyboard.
Have you installed any new software or updates prior to the problem? |
