Default lockups and "serious error" reports

My pc rebooted right after I posted a message last week. Also it locks up just moving around on the desktop after the mouse jumps from one spot to another. The key board does not respond. The only key that works is the F lock key. When I reboot, it works fine except for three keys:My documents, my pictures, my music. It is a Microsoft wireless multimedia kb and mouse combo, early model. I have installed the latest drivers from their web site. The event viewer log says problems with the controller card. I'll try to updating the drivers for it. Also I am suspecting over heating. Sometimes the front top empty bays emit alot of heat. I have 3 fans: front & rear case and cpu fan. I'll consider installing another fan. So far no problems for approximately an hour and a half since I began researching and posting this message. Sometimes I get very little warmth when I place my hand near the bay areas.

Thanks,
Rodimus

Rodimus,

This sounds like a hardware issue please download the following programs

RSIT
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
SpeedFan:

Download speedfan from this link:
Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

This tool will show you the running temps of your components. Please run it and post back with the results

I am in fact, quite cool. My graphing calculator confirms this

Hello Rodimus.

You're right to try updating those drivers. As for the KB/mouse combo, if the newer drivers don't work, try finding an original (ie, older) driver. Sometimes the newer ones for those KB's are 3rd party vendors that don't quite write them correctly.

To get a handle on that possible over heating issue, whiich it certainly sounds like it is doing, click the Speedfan link in my signature and run that.
Post the results here in your next post. We'll have a look.

I'll mark this open to encourage others to take a look as well.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the reply. No, I am not over clocking; I can, but I don't think i need to or want too. I have downloaded that program as suggested and will post my findings as soon as I can.

Thanks again,

Rodimus

I havn't gotten around to installing that fanspeed program but, I did suspect correctly the problem. It was the sata/pata(ide) controller card(for ide cd/dvd burner-mb has no ide connections, only sata) all along. No more lockups, over heating, and serious error reports. I am happy to report that my computer is now stable.
As for the kb problem it wasn't an issue about drivers. I still don't know why my MS wireless kb is still working even though it is not plugged in to the usb port from the transmitter, lol. Unplugged from the usb port, the "My Documents", "My Pictrues", & "My Music" buttons work, plugged in -they don't. Well you know what they say "If it ain't broke don't fix it". So I'm not.
Another problem I am having is, I can't decrypt some files from my backup drive. I can't copy or paste those files. I can delete, rename, and move them from one folder to another within the backup drive.
I have successfully tried taking ownership. I have successfully made certs and importing to certmgr.msc. I have successfully tried secpol.msc. But I still cannot open those Word 2003 documents.
The error messages are:"word cannot open the document...user does not have access privileges"; when I try to remove encryption in properties dialog box-"access denied-error applying attributes to file".

Sincerly,
Rodimus
