Default Using A/V cable and HDMI cable, which will I get?

Ok, I got a question. I got a Samsung-V9800 (DVD/VCR combo) and it has composite in and out and only compoennet in.

My first question is, can I use a componenet cable to connect my STB to my dvd/vcr player? my STB does have a compennet video out, BUT my dvd/vcr doesent have a componenet in, it only has out. Then I was thinking of using an HDMI cable from my dvd/vcr to my TV

first of all
-would using an componeet cable from be STB to dvd/vcr work?

and if it doesent work, cant I use an composiste cable to connect my stb to dvd, and then use an HDMI cable to connect my dvd to my TV? Would I still get HDMI quality for my STB and dvd or not?

I used to use a three way switch, to hook up two dvd players and set top box to my television and the audio on my stereo.

You can pick them up for about $20.00 or less in electrical stores.

You have to hook the hdmi cable up between your Blu-ray player and TV, if you don't you will not be seeing Hi Def movies.
