Default USB Stick problems.

My LG 1GB usb stick isn't working properly.
It has all of my College work on it and i need it working without losing all the data.
It work's perfectly fine on the college computers but not at home, i plug it in a home it will crash my pc for a few mins and then everything will appear ok.
If i try and copy anything then it will start and then say ''cannot read sorce or disk'' or somthing...and then it will appear as nothing is on the memory stick...
For all the data to appear again i have to take it out and then plug it back in, it doesn't give me enough time to copy all my work to format at home.

But i made a copy of MOST of my work at college and tried formatting but it is unable to format....

any help?

Welcome Jeezz!

When all appears "okay" with the stick in (but data is not accessible), could you please check Device Manager to ensure that the stick is not throwing errors?

To access Device Manager, Right Click My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Do any of these have !'s showing? If so, delete the item with ! showing and then have Device Manager "rediscover" the stick by Right Clicking your machine name (top right screen on Device Manager) -> Scan for New Hardware.

Perhaps your stick has a virus that isn't showing on the college systems? Could you use an on-line scan to check that when on a college system?

What OS does your PC have? What OS are the college systems running?

Please try the stick in a friend's computer. If it works there, then use the friend's AV to scan it. If it comes up virus free, then I think we need to go back to the USB controllers on your PC and delete them. Perhaps the one for the stick has corrupted. Deleting them all and allowing the computer to rediscover won't be an issue.
