Okay, I recently had to re-install Windows XP on my machine because of a rather huge issue with the OS failing. Almost everything is operational again, except for one thing.
When I try to use Mumble (voice chat program) my microphone isn't working correctly. People can hear me talk, but they also hear everything meant to go to my audio output. I'm using headphones, and the microphone is part of the headset, so that shouldn't be happening. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it, but it seems like somehow my system seems to be outputting my headphones audio to the microphone as well as the headphones. Has anyone encountered anything like that before, and possibly know how to fix it?

Turning the volume down on the external speakers usually fixes the echo problem...

Ah, finally!
I have this exact same issue, exactly as you describe. I was begginning to think nobody else had ever experienced this! Unfortunatly i have no figured it out yet. I've tried everything i can think of except uninstalling and reinstalling all sound drivers and codecs. That's my next attempt. I'll write another post if it's successful. Hopefully someone by now has an idea of how to fix it, as the first and only reply to this issue has completely missed the point. |

I've managed to fix it on my system, hooray!
I don't know if this will work for you, but it might since our problems were identical. I tried updating/replacing drivers and such.....that did nothing. I checked the settings for the audio volume for recording. Several things other than just the mic input were present, such as line in. I muted everything except mic in and recording and voila, problem solved! Hope this helps. If this isn't clear enough, send me an email and i'll explain a bit more thouroghly. |
