Default Few troubleshooting issues.

Hey guys/gals i have a few problems that i need hep with for some troubleshooting work im doing!

Cheers
Ash

Problem 1 – The system beeps on start-up, the fan is running but there is no cursor onscreen. The system appears to lock up during start-up or shortly after start-up before the OS loads.

Problem 2 – One of the computer systems appears dead at times or it locks up shortly after starting but always before the OS loads.

Problem 3 – One of the computer systems is suffering from frequent crashes that do not seem to follow any particular pattern.

Problem 4 – One of the computer systems beeps once and begins to load Windows XP but before before it can load the following message is displayed: Windows could not start because the follow the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll

Problem 5 – The customer has also reported that one of their workstations will not load Windows any longer as it begins to start but the following error is reported on a blue screen “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGE_AREA”

Problem 6 – Another issue that seems to only happen in the Sales Department, and that is a problem with a Printer that continually stops working for no apparent reason. The Printer is just out of warranty and the customer wants the problem corrected because when it works it does a good

All help with these problems is greatly appritiated.

Problem 2:Can you login onto windows at all?

If you cannot can you boot into safe mode and open command prompt and type in chkdsk /r and hit enter or boot into recovery console command prompt and type chkdsk /r and hit enter.

This issue may also be RAM or another.

Problem,s 1,2,3 could you download and run the following and post results:

SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Is it possible for you to post some computer specifications for these computers please.

Problem 5: Possibly bad RAM/Memory if you can load windows please run memtest or remove all RAM and test each stick individualy.

Problem 6: Check connections on printer, reinstall drivers for USB and the printer.Reinstall the printer software.

Problem 5: Try a minimal boot. That is, one stick of RAM, one hard drive, a keyboard, and power to the mobo (obviously with CPU installed).

Remove all other hardware, including expansion cards unless you don't have onboard GFX/Sound. BSODs are usually due to hardware errors.

Problem 6:

Do you mean the printer itself is faulty ie it won't turn on/print out or that printing from PC to printer is faulty?

If it is fault with the printer itself then thats hardware and if its PC to printer then its software.

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers if its a PC to printer problem. For a printer hardware problem it helps to know the exact problem and what type of printer you have, eg laserjet or inkjet.

However, you should check power cables, maybe swap out a power cable if it is turning on and off repeatedly.

If it is a network printer, give the printer a manual IP address as it could be that its address has changed on the network and its no longer available since the address on the machine is out of date.

Some more info for problem 5:

Page Fault in non page area

Also try booting in Safe Mode on Problem 5 and try a Repair from the XP Recovery Console (on an XP CD)

I wouldn't worry about it I have the same set of questions and we're allowed to use forums as part of our work, the questions are partly asked so we can show we can research solutions for a variety of sources and then say which solution we would follw and why. We just have to reference our sources.
