I just built a new computer about a half hour ago. Everything seemed to work fine. I just wanted to get things started first. I turned the power on, and i noticed the graphics card wasnt working. So i took the power out and opened the case. I took out the card and placed it on another PCI-E port. I closed the cover and powered it on again. It powered up for a split second then powered back down. I even placed the graphics card back and still the same issue. The motherboard isnt screwed up because the motherboard has an on board light thats on so the motherboard is getting the power. As soon as the switch turns to on, it turns for a half second then shuts off again. Need help badly.
Specs-
MSI k192 platinum mobo
8gb patriot ram
phenom x4 2.2ghz cpu
1TB HDD
1gb DDR2 Video Card
I really need help. I spent too much money and time on it to give up. Please help.

One thing that quick kills a mobo at power on is incorrect or improperly seated RAM. Happened to me.

Nope. No burnt smell. I dont think the ram is incorrectly seated. And sadly the motherboard does not have an onboard graphics. The mobo is not fried because there is this light thats glowing to tell that it is receiving power. I have a 480W PSU.

I have a slight feeling it could be the PSU but it was powering the computer just well before.

Lets try a few things.
Do you get any beep errors on startup? Did you add thermal paste to the CPU? Take her down to bare boot.Remove all RAM,hard drive,CD/DVD rom drives. Put in one stick of RAM and reboot see what happens.Test each RAM stick individualy. Lets see if we can rule out hardware.
