Default Disconnect/connect sound

I have a strange problem. My computer will give the De-Do sound that indicates a device disconnect and than in about 3-5 seconds I get the Do-De connect sound. Every thing seems to work but this happens at random. Anything I can monitor to uncover what is going on?

Thanks,
azbound

I'm thinking one of your USB ports is malfunctioning so lets refresh them first:

Assuming XP

Next step is to goto the Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager,

there you will see at the bottom

USB System Controllers

expand the list (by clicking on the + sign.)

Delete/Uninstall each item.

Reboot

The PC will refresh its "knowledge" of the USB ports.

Running Vista.

Also make sure any USB device cables are fully connected and any external hardware is switched off if not in use.
