Default Webcam problems

Hello.
I just moved on a campus, and to connect to that wireless network, I had to install a couple of updates of windows, among which sp2 to sp3. My webcam worked before, but it won't now. It's a delux DLV-B32 with a Sonix SN9C201 controller chip. I downloaded from Sonix the newest driver and I tried removing and reinstalling the device a couple of times, unsuccessfully.
When I go to My computer, I get the message:
"Creation of the Video Preview Failed. Please Check the Device Connection and Make Sure That the Device Is Not Being Used by Another Application or User" (needless to say that microsoft's solution to the problem of restarting My computer or the PC doesn't work). The capture program says: "This graph cannot preview", and "Cannot render video stream". If I try to use it in Skype say, it recognizes the camera, but I just get a black picture.
Any ideas anyone?

Hey Guardian Shadow,

My personal welcome to PCHF. This is sounding a good deal like a conflict with SP3. Was SP3 a requirement of the college? If not have you tried rolling back to SP2?

My understanding is that there are a lot of peripheral connection issues showing up with SP3.

I see that you weren't very happy witht the advice you were given on TSF, however, we want to rule out any possibilities; have you removed the webcam, uninstalled it, uninstalled the USB ports, then reinstalled the ports, and then the software, and then the camera? In that order?

If you would please go to Start, Run, and type in Services.msc, then hit OK, that should take you to your services lists. Scroll down to find your camera, if it is listed, and you right-click, and choose properties, does it give you any kind of error or warning?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
