My verizon wireless modem works great, but there is one problem. The software tries to auto update the device every couple weeks which normally in most cases that would be ok if I were in a Verizon network. Since I am in Puerto Rico for months at a time that is a problem. If it doesnt update it will not let you sign on. The strange part is that it seems if my signal is really weak it will forget the update and allow me to sign on. I have spoken with Verizon about this and they tell me there is nothing they can do to help me. I know that somewhere in the software there has got to be a way to stop this from happening but I havent been able to find it. There is a manual and auto update option but that is for the software, not the hardware. Is there someway I can overide the auto update? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there and welcome to PC Help Forum. Really sorry we took so long to get to you.
Have a look in Start > run > type msconfig (and press enter) > startup tab. Is there an entry in there for the Verizon update manager or similar?

Thanks for the replay Hengis. I looked under the start up tab and saw no mention of anything Verizon in nature. However, yesterday I fooled around a bit with the system registry and thought I had fixed the issue when low and behold I found some update values and changed them to zero. It actually connected 4 times in a row but the problem still came back. I can still connect just not consistently so the issue isnt dire or pressing just a pain in the ****!!!

OK, well I think I finally figured it out. The solution was so simple that I'm embarrassed that I didn't think of it sooner. I uninstalled the software and downloaded another version from Verizon's website. The version im running now still tries to update but this time it gives you a option to update at a later time. The way it should be! The version I'm using now is 6.9.2. I hope this will help somebody else in the future.
