I reinstalled vista a few months ago. After about two weeks I tried to us usb compact flash card reader. The usual removable disk did not show in my computer or disk management. After a while I would just use another computer. Then about a month ago I got a new Digital Camera and again it didn't show up as a removable disk. When I try to use the software that came with it there would be a connection error. Now my printer has stopped working with the same problem. Also I don't know if this is relative, but the microphone of my headset has stopped working as well.(not usb) I tried using different usb ports, but all bring the sme results. All of these devices work on other pcs. I also tried updating my usb drivers, but they are up to date according to Vista. My usb mouse and keyboard work fine, and the camera, and printer are recognized in device manager. Also for some reason there is floppy drive listed in my computer yet m pc doesn't have one. So does anybody have a solution?

Hi ac94597,
Do you have a ps2 mouse and keyboard that you can use temporarily? Go into to Device Manager - Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers right down the bottom of the list. Right all click all the items listed and select uninstall. After you have removed all the them, reboot your pc. Windows should automatically reinstall them all when it starts up. If they still don't work then your motherboard may be faulty and you should look into getting it replaced. |

You can still try what I suggested but I think your motherboard may be faulty if you have also sound jacks as well. If the controllers don't reinstall on reboot you may lose your keyboard and mouse as well.
Is your computer under warranty - if so it's best to return it to Dell and get it fixed, even if it isn't it still may be your best option. |
