Ahhhhhhhhhh, just pluged it all in and a message came up saying "hardware installed and ready to use", but I don't know what to do now, don't know where to go or how to start transfering my programs, folders and files. Could any of you guys help?

By the way the make of the external hardrive is "Dynamode".

Tygra try this:

Do this first.

Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
In the console tree, click Disk Management. The Disk Management window appears. Your disks and volumes appear in a graphical view and list view. To customize how you view your disks and volumes in the upper and lower panes of the window, point to Top or Bottom on the View menu, and then click the view that you want to use.

To format a partition, logical drive or basic volume:
1.In the Disk Management window, right-click the partition or logical drive that you want to format (or reformat), and then click Format.
2.In the Format dialog box, type a name for the volume in the Volume label box. This is an optional step.
3.Click the file system that you want to use in the File system box. If you want, you can also change the disk allocation unit size, specify whether you want to perform a quick format, or enable file and folder compression on NTFS volumes.
4.Click OK.5.Click OK when you are prompted to format the volume. The format process starts.

Let me know when it is done.

Wouldn't suggest you did what was in the above post - a lot of disks have management software to install which you might want to install later on them.

If the HDD does not appear in My Computer, then do what Jelly Bean said.

Sorry guys for the late reply, but it was late last night when I last posted and now it is morning.

Anyway; when the external hardrive is all set up and pluged in, I go to "my computer" and there is an icon looking exactly the same as the local disk (C) icon, but saying "New Volume (E). I then double click on it and I get a folder saying "System Volume Information", I then click on that and it says "E:\system volume inforamtion is not accessible. Access is denied".

Jelly Bean, on the New Volume E icon there is'nt any "read only" option, however, when I click on the icon and get to the folder I told you about it does have a read only option, but it says nothing about permissions.

And i'm using XP.

Go to my computer and right click on the external drive and choose open or explore does it open to blank box or empty hard drive?

Try device manager and update USB drivers and hard drive ones.
