Default Blank screen on startup

Whatever I do, all I get is the noise of the fan. There are no error messages.

Although the screen remains blank, if I press function keys such as Ctrl-Alt-Del, or F1, F2, F8, or F10, I quickly see a screen (don't think therefore it's a hardware problem), but I can't stop it. The hard disk carries on like mad with loads of fan noise, but the screen stays blank. Can't pause on any of the screens that flick up very briefly. Can't intervene. Can't get the PC to do anything I want.

I have XP Home, no boot disk, the software's on a partition of the hard disk. Can't access anything.

What do I do to rectify the situation?

Hi
I am not sure but you could try and boot windows xp again but you might want to wait to see if any one else reply before doing so.

Thumbs down Re: Blank screen on startup

Thanks! How would I go about booting up again. I've tried Alt-Ctrl-Del a hundred times. Always the same result. Loads of hard disk activity, but nothing to show for it.

How can I get this PC started again?

The noise is just the fan and quite extensive hard disk access. PC obviously thinks it's hot work trying to do nothing useful.

Are you able to get into last known good config or safe mode?

Hi
to reboot your pc this might work might not but still worth a try: put the windows startup disk in the cd drive and see whats happen if it works it should come up with a blu screen asking for the product key.
