Default Buying an HDD enclosure

I've just bought a 400GB Hitachi SATA 2.5" HDD (see here) and am now struggling to find a case for it. I bought one which was big enough for the drive but only had an IDE connection (whoops), and then bought another one which had a SATA connection, but the enclosure was too big across the narrowest dimension to fit the drive - I think this drive is slightly bigger than other 2.5" drives.

Can anyone sugges a good enclosure, preferably one that runs as SATA/300 on a Firewire port?

Thanks, but I'd already tried that. When I narrow the search to only include items that are firewire and SATA, I only get 3.5" enclosures. See All matching items for sale..

I've found this:

Macally External FireWire 800/400/USB 2.0 2.5" SATA HDD Enclosure Mac/Win (MAC-TB-S120) | AllMacShop

But it's not in stock and is very expensive. I'm also not sure it would fit around my drive.

There's this:

PHR-S250CC Macally Peripherals

But again I'm not sure if it would fit my drive, and it's only available in the States anyway!

It is indeed, but it's just slightly larger profile than a regular laptop hdd. It's one of the new, large capacity Hitachi ones.

It's weird that there's no firewire SATA enclosures, eh? Maybe I'll have to settle for a USB one, but it's a bit of a shame. Thanks for your help tho'.

Try this:Maplin> LAPTOP HARD DRIVE ENCLOSURES

http://www.lindy.co.uk/usb-firewire/...FQyD1QodoSgDkQ

http://www.storagedepot.co.uk/Enclos...FQuJ1QodLy2hlA

These enclosures to have space around the hard drive. As long as the hard drive can be screwed to the internal brackets and secured it is fine.Extra space is for air flow to keep the hard drive cool.A hard drive is usaly a little tight to put in these cases.

Neither Maplin, nor Lindy, nor Storage Depot do a 2.5" Firewire SATA enclosure!

It's becoming more and more apparent that I'm going to have to settle for a USB enclosure (boo hiss), but does anyone out there know of a decent enclosure that would do the job? I've only got 2 USB ports on my MacBook Pro, and two firewire ports, so I'd like to use one of the latter if I can.
